Gatlinburg Attractions

Before we get into all the great attractions in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, let's dive into some of the history of Gatlinburg. In brief, this historic city started out as a small logging and farming town. Before that, it was founded as White Oak Flats and was settled mostly by veterans from the American Revolution. Then came a post office named by the postmaster who rented a corner spot in a building owned by Radford Gatlin. Mr. Gatlin was run out of town before the Civil War but the name Gatlinburg has remained the same to this day. By 1934 Gatlinburg became the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. With its strategic location it continues to invite more visitors every year and every year new restaurants, stores, and attractions increase.

Some very exciting times and adventures can be had in Gatlinburg! It is in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and from there you have a wide choice of activities to participate in, such as horseback riding, rafting, wildlife watching, fishing, and mountain climbing. There is even a space needle that boasts spectacular views of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is a fun filled, action packed place to go. Families, friends, and groups can all watch shows that include spectacular special effects, incredible stunts, and brilliant performers. Other venues would be Black Bear Jamboree and Wild Bear Falls Water Park of Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort. Wild Bear Falls Water Park is a big flying musical dinner revue with a country feast in the midst of bluegrass and gospel music. Another place is Wonder Works with the Hoot n Holler dinner show. As you can tell, there is a wide range of attractions to enjoy in Gatlinburg. And this is not even the tip of the iceberg!

Close to the Gatlinburg Space Needle is an amusement center full of games and rides. For even more family-oriented fun you can visit Ripley's Aquarium, which is full of creatures. If you are a fan and follower of Dolly Parton you do not want to miss Dollywood located in Pigeon Forge. As you may guess, Dollywood has that down-home old-fashioned southern hospitality.

For a fun Fourth of July vacation go to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for the Annual Red Baron Fourth of July Midnight Parade, the first parade in the nation that starts at midnight. The fun continues throughout the day and moves over to the River Raft Regatta 12 hours later.

As you plan your vacation, you will need a place to stay. When it comes to your lodging, the selections are as various as your tastes. Your budget will certainly fit in somewhere between camping, cabins, hotels, or a luxurious bed and breakfast located among Gatlinburg attractions. It's all up to you, according to your length of stay and budget. Perhaps a mix of different accommodations is the perfect answer to provide some variety on your visit to Gatlinburg!
